Military Nursing Service called as MNS come to existence in 1988 as the part of British Army. In the year of 1893 it was nominated as Indian Army Nursing Service. Indian Nursing Service and the Army Nursing Service were combined together in the year of 1902. After that it was reformed as Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service on 27 March 1902. After the independence in 1950, the Government of India developed the Military Nursing Service (MNS) by issuing Army Instruction 274/50.

Now at this time Military Nursing Service is an integral part of the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) which is placed at Pune, Maharashtra, India. It is managed and controlled by the Indian Armed Forces.
